There’s no joking around when it comes to picking the overall style of your soon-to-be home. It’s like finding the one… you want to get it right! The journey may be long with a lot of research needed to be done ahead but to get you started, here are some pointers to discover what house style you may fancy.

  1. Victorian

Victorian houses are one of the most classic and timeless styles of architecture ever to be designed. Built between 1837-1891 and named after Queen Victoria, these masterpieces retain an aura of elegance, class and sophistication. They usually feature steeply pitched roofs, patterned shingles, asymmetrical facades and cutaway windows. If you adore nostalgic charm, then Victorian houses may be for you.

  1. Edwardian/Federation

Truly encapsulating the Aussie spirit, Edwardian houses represent the period when Australia became an independent nation in 1901! These classic houses usually feature red brick or painted weatherboard exteriors, slate or corrugated galvanised roofs, roof shingles, terracotta tiles, stained glass windows and Australian fauna and flora motifs. Luxury is really in the details of Edwardian homes!

  1. Queenslander

Another distinctive masterpiece of Australian architecture, Queenslanders are sturdy and practical. They are usually raised off the ground by timber stumps and feature stylish exteriors made of timber and corrugated iron and embellished by external verandas. Boasting a relatively large floor plan, usually up to 6 rooms connected to a central corridor, you won’t be worrying about lack of space!

  1. Contemporary

We’ve all heard of the phrase ‘less is more’! Well, contemporary homes are living proof of this phenomenon. Embracing minimalism, contemporary homes often feature flat roofs, open plans, simple forms and geometric lines – see our Noarlunga South project for an example. If you love simplicity and aspire the KonMari life, contemporary homes are the way to go.

  1. Art Deco

Ditch the subtleness, Art Deco homes are built to be seen and impress! A distinctive style that was a hit in the 1920s and 30s, these homes are all about clean, geometric lines, portraying a solid appearance. The simple outlook can act as the perfect canvas for you to express your creativity and make it unapologetically glamourous.

  1. Mediterranean

Ever imagined being able to come home to a vacation every day? Well, we’ve got good news! Just own a Mediterranean-styled home, and your dream will come true.  Inspired by the exotic seaside villas in Italy, Spain and France – Mediterranean homes are luxurious, usually adopting an open-style layout with large exterior windows, low-pitched tiled roofs, stucco or brick siding, hallmark archways, verandas and balconies and of course not to be missed, court yards and swimming pools. With a house like this, you’ll be able to experience carpe diem every day.
